RAY ARMSTEAD OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST & MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

Ray Armstead is no stranger to success. As a high school athlete, Ray had never competed in track and field until his senior year. His love for competition came from basketball. In high school, Ray never dreamed of becoming an Olympic Gold Medalist in track and field. But in his senior year he decided to give it a whirl. Unknown to himself, track and field events would prove themselves to be quit rewarding. Since that time, Ray's tremendous energy and enthusiasm have led to a host of achievements including an Olympic Gold in 1984. Ray brings a myriad of success principles to the stage which give audience members a burst of motivation. Determined to share his principles of success, Ray embarked on a journey to touch the lives of our youth as well as adults. His presentations on teamwork, leadership and motivation inspire audiences to take action and work diligently to achieve whatever dreams they strive for. Ray will also tell you that preparation and sacrifice are the keys to victory in any endeavor. Ray Armstead played basketball at Northwest High School in St. Louis and didn't begin his track career until he was a senior. He was the Public High League champion in the high jump and the 400-yard dash, setting a conference record in the 400. He enrolled at Truman State University and earned All-American honors three times. Mr. Armstead was a three-time MIAA conference indoor champion in the 400 and held the conference record with a time of 48.03. He won the MIAA conference outdoor title three times in the 400, setting a conference record of 46.59. He established the school record in the 600 with a time of 1:08.69. He served as team captain three seasons. At the 1984 Southeast Missouri State Pepsi Invitational he qualified for the 400 at the summer Olympic trials. As an unknown at the trials, Mr. Armstead finished fourth in the finals of the 400 qualifying him for a spot on the 4x400 meter relay team in the Olympic games at Los Angeles. Running the second leg in the relay with Sunder Nix, Alonzo Babers and Antonio McKay, he turned in a time of 43.97. The foursome won the gold in a time of 2:57.91-at that time the second fastest time ever and the fastest ever at that altitude.
